Throughout year 2011 Focus On Women has supported the construction of a Communitarian Center in the village of Ta Phin, in the mountainous village of Sapa, Vietnam. This center will be the responsible of preserving the handcraft traditions and the endemic medicinal plants of the region. Women and men of the Red Yao ethnic minority live in Ta Phin. Since the tourism in the area broke sharply in recent years. The economic differences between the neighbours have increased, the ancient traditions are being lost and the natural environment is being degraded. The Community Center of Ta Phin was born with the intention of creating a friendly and relaxed space where tourists and local women can know each other, meet and exchange. In addition, it will house local craft workshops where Yao women can work and display their products. The center will also have a garden of endemic medicinal plants of the area and an educational program for its preservation and commercial farming. Currently the center is under construction. Focus on Women donated the amount of 625 Euros raised during the charity event in 2011 to the center, to help with its construction. We hope that these funds contribute to realizing this project and help to improve the economic and social situation of the community of women of Ta Phin. Two groups of travelers of Focus on Women visited Ta Phin and the construction during the summer of 2011.
